Huang Jingao’s open letter and more

Thanks to Eswn for also translating Huang Jingao’s open letter here. (It even has Huang’s photo.) It seems to me that the latest wave of “open letters” has some significant new characters from the past. Many of these voices are from people within the system. Huang Jingao, an official; Lu Yuegang, an elite journalist; Jiao Guobiao, a professor in China’s best university; … and of course, these events are now aided by the power of the Internet. Eswn noticed that (Hunag Jingao’s letter) ” has received the support of more than 100,000 netizens” on People’s Daily website within hours. Since the mid-80s, we have seen too many brief surge of pro-reform advocacy, followed by authorities’ new restrictions. This time, will things be different?
