Travelling as one of millions in the biggest movement of people on Earth or spending hours stuffing dumplings or crowding among throngs into parks means China’s Lunar New Year is a festival as much of stress as of fun.

Each year, China’s rapidly expanding and modernising transport system creaks at its seams as it moves almost the entire population of 1.3 billion on vacation for a week all at once.
