Welcome to China Digital Times

We have redesigned the site to make it more interactive, informative, and dynamic. This is a participatory media site, and we aim to use cutting-edge social software applications to build a vibrant online CDT community. We invite you to join us.

There are various ways to participate in China Digital Times:

*Enter your email address in the Subscribe form at the top of the front page of CDT to receive daily digests of CDT posts. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time.

*E-mail a link to a relevant news story, commentary, or website to CDT editors (through the Contact Us button on the front page) to post on the site. We will select quality contributions and when appropriate, we will publicly credit contributors.

*E-mail a China photo to us (through the Contact Us button on the front page) to post on our front page. Please include a title or description of the photo, and your name as you would like to be credited. Please note that due to technical limitations, we may have to resize your photo before posting, and not all contributions will be posted.

*Post comments to individual stories’ Discussion forum. As an anti-spamming precaution, we require readers to register before posting comments and we reserve the right to remove any irrelevant, offensive, or commercial posts. But we welcome and encourage you to share your views, knowledge and analysis in this way.

*Contribute links through del.icio.us or furl social bookmarking sites. Go to one of those sites, set up a free account, and give a tag called “chinadigitaltimes” to any bookmarked links that you want to contribute to our site. We welcome news, commentary, resource information, cartoons, multimedia displays, or other interesting China-related information. We will select quality links from the collective “chinadigitaltimes” tagged list to post on CDT, and credit contributors if appropriate. Through this process, you will also be able to meet other online participants to CDT.

*Contribute photos through flickr photo-sharing site. Open a free account on flickr.com. Put a tag called “chinadigitaltimes” on any China-related photos that you want to contribute to our site. (Make sure you post photos with a Creative Commons license). We will select photos to post from the collective list of photos with a “chinadigitaltimes” tag, and credit the photographer. Please note that due to technical limitations, at this time we may have to resize photos before posting. Through this process, you will be able to meet other participants to CDT and have your photos prominently displayed on CDT.

As part of our experimentation with participatory media, CDT uses Wikipedia (“the free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit”) as an online resource and interactive knowledge base. However, the information in Wikipedia is constantly being generated, updated and edited by its users, and in linking to a specific entry on Wikipedia, CDT does not guarantee the quality and accuracy of the information available at any given moment. If you are a journalist and plan to use content from Wikipedia, double-checking information is a must. CDT encourages our readers to participate in the improvement and expansion of the China-related sections of Wikipedia by contributing your knowledge to the site.

Over the coming months, we will add and improve the features on China Digital Times to make it a comprehensive news aggregator, resource center, and nexus of online networks devoted to the politics, economy, society, culture and international relations of China. At any time, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. China Digital Times is an experiment in participatory media, and your participation and input to the site are crucial for its success.

We look forward to seeing you online,

The China Digital Times Team
