Taiwan refreshes bid for WHO, frets about China

From Reuters:

Diplomatically isolated Taiwan on Tuesday launched a fresh bid to become an observer at the World Health Organisation‘s (WHO) annual assembly, but said it was not hopeful of cooperation from rival China.

China, which views the self-ruled island of 23 million as a breakaway province and opposes its participation in most international organisations, has blocked Taiwan’s World Health Organisation bid for years — even during the 2003 SARS crisis.

The UN recently blocked Taiwanese journalists from attending the WHO’s World Health Assembly, according to this Taipei Times report.
