Jailed journalist still held after deadline expires – Gary Cheung

From The South China Morning Post, via AsiaMedia:

Supporters of Hong Kong journalist Ching Cheong yesterday called for his release after a deadline expired for his case to be passed onto a procuratorate at the weekend.

The plea came as Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said in London his administration had done what it considered necessary in the case.

In a statement released yesterday, the Ching Cheong Incident Concern Group said it was unreasonable to detain Ching — China correspondent for Singapore’s The Straits Times — for such a long time.
