According to a piece in the Financial Times, “China announced late last year a significant strengthening of the People’s Armed Police, a paramiltary group used to quell disturbances.

The PAP has also bolstered its firepower by acquiring what the local media calls ‘super-weapons’ from Israel, advanced guns bought at Rmb120,000 a piece.” One of these “super weapons” includes a gun (pictured here) which can “round the corner.” This news was posted on Netease, and subsequently commented on by Chinese bloggers.

On
this news, I have collected the following comments from the Netease news forum (Got to kill the Net with the “rounding the corner” gun, otherwise these smarties (netizens) will take it over):

— They (police) cannot even shoot straight, who will they be shooting with this “rounding the corner” gun? It will be good if they just do not mistakenly shoot any innocent people.

— This (“rounding the corner” gun) is a good fit to use on those who violate the “regulations on petitions“!

— This will be great to shoot birds. But we do not see any birds. How great!

— What’s the fuss (about the price) here? Let me tell you why these weapons are worth 120,000 yuan. 20,000 goes to Israel, and 100,000 stays within our Public Security Bureau.

— If you want to use these weapons against the students, you grossly overestimated the students’ martial arts abilities!

— Take (money) from the people, use it on the people.

— You’re using such expensive equipment against the people? Dammit, if you are really so powerful, why don’t you go get the Diaoyu Islands back!

Blogger Chiu Yung also commented: “I don’t understand why we need to import Israeli “rounding the corner gun” – our bullets already know how to round the corner!” (links included in original post).
