The Ministry of Health punished six officials from a top-level hospital in Heilongjiang Province, by firing its administrative and party chiefs, as it wrapped up the investigation of an over-charged medical bill scandal, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The ministry also suspended the top-level license of the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University for one year.

The ministry will now remove directors from public hospitals if their hospital is found over-charging patients, the report said.

The hospital over-charged Weng Wenhui, a 75 year old retired teacher, suffering from lymphoma, 207,000 yuan (US$25,830), the ministry said.
