Censors turn China’s Baidupedia into closed book – Mure Dickie

From the Financial Times (link)

Contributing to Wikipedia, the internet encyclopedia, has been a powerful experience for Chinese users entranced by the idea of an open-ended online reference work that anyone can edit.

“From Wikipedia I learned how to understand different viewpoints and to be neutral and tolerant,” says one enthusiast who uses the online pen-name “Diligent Pavilion”.

“I think it is a really great thing to guard an ever-growing store of knowledge that anyone who knows Chinese can freely use,” Diligent Pavilion says. “I feel pretty proud to be part of such a mighty endeavour.”
