There were some interesting statistics concerning coal mine accidents in yesterday’s Guizhou Commercial News (Ë¥µÂ∑ûÂïÜÊä•) (in Chinese only).
– Guizhou had 521 accidents in coal mines during 2005, 479 of which occured in township and village enterprises (or 91.94%).
– In the last decade, the province had on average 320 fatal accidents and 843 deaths per annum.
– In 2004, coal production increased 22% and the province had 577 accidents and 894 deaths.
– In 2005, Guizhou produced 100 million tonnes of coal for the first time (107.95 million to be precise) and had 521 accidents and 837 deaths.
– Deaths per million tonnes mined have dropped 1.64/million tonnes to 7.9 deaths/million tonnes.
– Fatalities in township and village mines stood at 765, or 91.40% of the total.[Full Text]
