China economy not overheating, 2006 GDP growth seen at 10% – AFX

China’s economy is not overheating despite its rapid growth, and gross domestic product should expand by about 10 percent for the full year, an influential economist said.

Wang Yiming, deputy director of the macro-economic research institute under the powerful National Development and Reform Commission, said that growth will be maintained at about that level if Beijing moves ahead with ‘appropriate’ monetary tightening measures.

China recorded year-on-year GDP growth of 10.9 pct in the first half and 11.3 pct in the second quarter. [Full Text]
