Japan’s Abe to Visit Beijing Oct 7 – 8: Kyodo

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is to visit Beijing for two days from Saturday and meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, Kyodo news agency reported on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Foreign Minister Taro Aso said last week that Abe wanted to go to China in October. A Japanese government source said, however, that China had been pressing Abe to make clear that he would not visit Yasukuni.

Abe, who has visited the shrine in the past, has declined to say whether he would do so as prime minister. [Full Text]
