China’s A-share Market Growth Tops World in 2006 – Xinhua

The Hushen 300 Index, which tracks some of the top values on China’s yuan-denominated A-share market, posted the highest growth of any stock market in the world in 2006 with a 121 percent rise, China Securities Journal reported on Saturday.

Listed companies raised a record-high of 220.44 billion yuan ($27.56 billion) on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses in 2006, up 43.14 percent on the previous high of 154 billion yuan in 2000.

The total market capitalization of the two stock markets grew 175.68 percent year-on-year to 8.9 trillion yuan, which is equivalent to nearly half China’s gross domestic product in 2006. [Full Text]
