Some Chinese chat rooms have reportedly been buzzing about Fujitsu Limited, the Japanese electronics and information technology (IT) titan with seemingly limitless products and services … and a huge and expanding presence in China.
The chat comes at a time of rising protectionist and anti-foreigner feeling in China–though the government has turned down the volume of specifically anti-Japanese propaganda–and could be seen as one of the growing signs that China is rethinking its stance on foreign companies and investment within its borders. China has aggressively courted foreign investment for more than a decade, crediting capital from abroad with helping it become a global economic power. In recent months, however, the Chinese government, claiming that it needs to protect homegrown companies from unfair competition, has hit foreign firms seeking to do business in China with an array of new regulations.
