A Chinese-American defense engineer accused of stealing information on U.S. military technology to send to China admitted trying to help that nation, a prosecutor alleged Wednesday in opening statements of a federal trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Staples painted a picture of defendant Chi Mak, 66, as a longtime agent who had been sending sensitive information to China since 1983. [Full text]
