China Is Under `Heavy Pressure’ on Energy Saving Goal – Wang Ying and Ying Lou

China is under “very heavy pressure” to meet targets for reducing the amount of used to drive the world’s fastest-growing major economy after missing last year’s goal, a government official said.

“Among all provinces in China, only Beijing met the target of cutting energy consumption by 4 percent,” Xie Fuzhan, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, said in the capital today. “There’s distortion in China’s energy prices and tax policies,” making it hard to meet the goal, he said during a briefing….[Full Text]
