Open Markets Wider, Australia Urges China – Yu Ning and Daniel Seifert

Two-year-old free trade talks between China and Australia have encountered some difficulties, particularly in areas of market access, Australia’s lead negotiator Ric Wells said in an August 13 interview.

Wells, the point man in Beijing for the Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade Department , is urging China to follow his country’s lead by widening foreign access to financial markets. “We have modernized and liberalized our financial market in order to stimulate competition, and we have done that by reducing barriers for foreign entry,” Wells said.
