Party Honoring Hu for Historic Role in China’s Ideology – Edward Cody

The Chinese Communist Party announced Sunday that President Hu Jintao’s major political innovation, which he calls “scientific development,” would be enshrined in the party charter as a historical contribution to Marxist ideology.

The move, in an amendment to be approved by the party’s 17th National Congress, which opens Monday, constitutes an official endorsement by the party faithful of Hu’s emphasis on tempering breakneck economic development with social concerns, such as protecting the environment and providing basic guarantees for the poor.
