Hong Kong Leader Proposes Democratic Change – Robin Kwong

Donald Tsang , Hong Kong’s chief executive, asked Beijing Wednesday to allow his successor to be elected through more democratic means in a report that marks the first official recognition of public aspirations for faster democratic reform.

The report, now pending approval by the National People’s Congress , China’s rubber-stamp parliament, is a first step towards eventually making Hong Kong’s chief executive the first democratically elected leader within communist China. [Full Text]
