The snowstorm which started in the middle of this month hit mainly southern China and caused an estimated USD 4 billion in direct economic losses, according to the National Ministry of Civil Affairs.
Enormous pressures stemmed from the transportation, energy (electricity), and water supply shortage across the country. As it is approaching Spring Festival, the most important traditional holiday for Chinese, millions of people are stuck in bus and train stations because of the snow. See the photos below:
