Video: Lion Dance on Lunar Chinese New Year

The history of the lion dance in China can be traced back nearly a thousand years. The traditional meaning of it is to scare away the devil “Nian” and welcome peace and fortune in the coming year. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to find a lion dance show for lunar new year in China. More specifically, not many people practice the lion dance since there’s not much of a market demand. It seems that the overseas Chinese are often more traditional and keep the lion dance show for lunar new year. Here is one good video piece shot in Malaysia. From Youtube.
