China’s Anti-doping Body Conducts 5,007 Drug Tests

China’s anti-doping authorities say they have embarked on the country’s most ambitious and comprehensive drug testing program ahead of the Olympics. From ABC News, Australia.

The Olympic motto is “Faster Higher Stronger” and Chinese authorities say they are doing all they can to ensure their athletes try to live up to it without turning to drugs.

Anti-doping officials today said they had conducted 5,007 drug tests on 2,000 outstanding Chinese athletes so far this year.

Two have tested positive.

Chinese athletes who use performance-enhancing drugs face lifetime bans and so do their coaches.

Members of the national team have also been asked to take oaths and sign pledges that they will compete “clean”.
