True, these are lavish extravagant productions, but they dont represent the entire body of his works. Anyone who has seen Not One Less or The Story of Qiu Ju or Happy Times or Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles or Wo de fuqin muqin (I think the English title was My Father, Mother) will know that Zhang is a master of storytelling when it comes to portraying the &quot;real lives of ordinary people&quot;. To judge him solely on the basis of Curse of the Golden Flower or Hero is completely flawed. In my view, these critics are way off target...
