Chinese Bloggers Mock Mandelson Amid Milk Crisis

Chinese bloggers are now making fun of Peter Mandelson, the British Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise, and Regulatory Reform, by making comparisons between two recent pieces of news.

Oct. 6 from the Telegraph,

The new Business Secretary underwent hospital tests after experiencing kidney pain, and the presence of a stone was confirmed.

“Over the past few days, Peter Mandelson has been experiencing some kidney pain,” a spokesman said.

“Hospital tests yesterday confirmed that there is a small stone. This will be dealt with by the normal procedures later today.

Also there is this earlier news, which was largely covered by Chinese media. From the China Daily,

Amid a scandal over tainted milk, Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday reassured the world that China will continue to offer safe products at home and abroad.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in the port city of Tianjin, Wen promised the government would also work to instill business ethics following the milk scandal.

He said he was very moved when he saw in television European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson drinking a cup of Chinese milk on Friday to show his trust in China-made products. “It’s because he not only sees the present, but the future as well,” Wen said.

  • Mandelson, Mandelson… Are you not writing about the European Commissioner?

  • The Business Secretary is so out of touch with what goes on in China. By his foolish demonstration he demonstrates he doesn’t know that poverty in China coupled with greed and a little slight of hand aer accepted in the Chinese society, and only condemned when the deed is uncovered. Go spend some time on the ground in china away from the big cities and develop a sense of what is real in china.
