From China Daily:

may be leading the US presidential race against by only about 10 percent in his country, but he enjoys a much higher rating in China.

A Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released Wednesday gave the Democratic presidential nominee a 10 percent lead over his Republican rival.

But an online poll conducted on China Daily’s website by the US embassy, shows Obama enjoys the support of 75 percent among the Chinese.

  • The rest of the world seemed to be mesmerized by Obama. But the interest in US politics is degrading because of the global financial crisis.

  • @ Joy,

I would say that much of Obama’s support, particularly from people who have only started to pay attention to the election late in the game, is a reaction against precisely the sorts of mistakes that led to the financial crisis: deregulation, benefits thrown to the wealthy, etc. If being excited by the prospect of better policies in the U.S. counts as being “mesmerized”, then mesmerized is fine by me!

If you are making a broader point about people losing faith in America’s current economic model, then I am completely in agreement–both with the fact that people are losing faith and with their reasons for losing faith. Good riddance!
