Photos: Children from a Rural School

The following photos are from “Haixiao welcome different views” (海啸欢迎不同观点) blog, translated by CDT:

Recently, I went to the district of An Ding in Dingxi , Gansu for a business trip to Nanping Elementary School, which is 120 kilometers from the nearest town. The backwardness of the school was very shocking.

This elementary school was established in the 1960’s. Many students from various villages nearby once studied at this school. Now, this school has 40 students and 5 teachers. (1 headmaster, 1 invitational teacher, and 3 recently appointed teachers-in-training.)

This school has six classrooms and five offices. After almost 40 years, the school is still using the tile rooms constructed during the Cultural Revolution. One of the national flags has also been used for six years. The basketball stand on the playground has been through many storms and is only recognizable through old pictures, but the students here are still using it. The decrepit house almost fell due to the earthquake this year, but there hasn’t been any funds allocated for repairs.
