Is this a new thing on official visits, to negotiate for the right to address the host country on all television stations? So next time, say, Sarkozy comes to the US, the hosts will grant him an hour on all the major networks?Or is this right limited to US presidents and candidates? So a US candidate can give a speech at the Brandenburg gate, but say an Italian candidate for Prime Minister would not get to block off Union Square for his own event?I am not opposed to having such events, and support Obama on most things he has done. But what is the principle here?

I am a little puzzled by this whole issue.
