Congratulations to Ms. Chan for including the negative with the positive in her balanced reports on China–including the extralegal detention facilities known as black jails, which are reminiscent of Cultural Revolution era cowshed lock-ups. The CCP regime authorities’ decision to expel her reveals the ugly scowl of a one-party authoritarian police state that spends even more on internal police repression and surveillance than it spends on its military. Only through coercion, intimidation, and bribery can such a lawless one-party police state remain in power.
