Weibo Artist @ZEEKO has a new take on “chiseling at the wall to borrow the light” (凿壁借光). The idiom comes from the story of Kuang Heng, a Confucian scholar who as a young boy studied at night by the light coming through a crack he had chiseled in his bedroom wall. In this modern twist, this tall, heavily-guarded wall could be the Great Firewall–or the secrecy of the party-state itself–and the crack in the wall is the free Internet.
