Mo Yan has proven by his comments in Scandinavia to be tamed and obedient instrument of the authoritarian party of which he is a member. Mo Yan has praised the Party-state’s aggressive censorship of the media and internet as being every bit as necessary and appropriate as airport security checks. His earlier expression of sympathy for the imprisoned Nobel Peace Laureate Liu Xiaobo has now been revealed as a disingenuous PR stunt.
