Hexie Farm (蟹农场): The Fires of Truth

For his latest contribution to the Hexie Farm CDT series, cartoonist  depicts the information blackout in Tibetan areas where self-immolation protests are surging. The background of the fire of a burning monk is black, representing the strict media censorship in Tibet, which prevents the truth from getting out. The tank represents the heavy military presence in Tibetan regions. The banner on the side says, “Tibetans and Han are One Family,” a reference to a photo taken in 2010 in western Sichuan. Since 2009, 91 people have self-immolated; in a recent surge of protests, 29 have self-immolated since November 1.
