The following censorship instructions, issued to the media by central government authorities, have been leaked and distributed online. Chinese journalists and bloggers often refer to these instructions as “Directives from the Ministry of Truth.”
Guangdong Propaganda Department: The media are only to produce simple reports on the conflict between the proprietor of Guangzhou Jinxiu Heung Kong Gardens and public security. Guangdong Propaganda Department: Regarding the explosion in a capital residence in the Yuancun Erheng Lu neighborhood in Guangzhou’s Tianhe District and the casualties suffered: if covering the incident, strictly adhere to information issued by the city Public Security Bureau. Do not put the story on the front page or lure readers to it. Do not exaggerate or sensationalize it.
