Central Propaganda Department: Regarding the recent spate of school indecency cases, the media should not make this issue too prominent in layouts. Focus coverage on management and protection measures taken by Party committees, the government, and social organizations, while looking constructively at how similar mishaps can be prevented. (May 30, 2013)

中宣部:对于近期连续发生的校园猥亵案,各媒体版面处理不要太突出,要重点报道党委政府及有关社会组织的处理和保护措施,并从建设性角度探讨如何更好防范类似事故发生。

Several child molestation and abuse cases have emerged over the past few weeks, some involving school and government officials. Following a netizen campaign to protect schoolgirls from sexual abuse, the Supreme People’s Court has ordered harsher sentences for convicted child abusers.

CDT has collected the selections we translate here from a variety of sources and has checked them against official Chinese media reports to confirm their implementation.

Since directives are sometimes communicated orally to journalists and editors, who then leak them online, the wording published here may not be exact. The original publication date on CDT Chinese is noted after the directives; the date given may indicate when the directive was leaked, rather than when it was issued. CDT does its utmost to verify dates and wording, but also takes precautions to protect the source.
