Minitrue: Occupy Central Leaders Turn Themselves In

The following censorship instructions, issued to the media by government authorities, have been leaked and distributed online. The name of the issuing body has been omitted to protect the source.

The media may republish and recommend coverage of the three instigators of Hong Kong’s illegal “Occupy Central” [movement] turning themselves in for arrest. However, reports from authoritative media must be held as the standard. Websites must take care to increase examination and control of netizens’ posts. (December 3, 2014)

香港违法“占中”三名发起人自首一事,新闻媒体可以转发并推荐,但必须以权威媒体报道为准。网站注意对网民自发的评论加以审核和控制。 [Chinese]

Occupy Central leaders Benny Tai, Chu Yiu-ming, and Chan Kin-man attempted to turn themselves in at Hong Kong’s Central Police Station yesterday for violating laws of assembly. None of them were arrested.

真Since directives are sometimes communicated orally to journalists and editors, who then leak them online, the wording published here may not be exact. The date given may indicate when the directive was leaked, rather than when it was issued. CDT does its utmost to verify dates and wording, but also takes precautions to protect the source.
