Badiucao (巴丢草): Xi Jinping, You’re Fired!

Following the release of two open letters calling for Xi Jinping’s resignation, Badiucao imagines him packing up his office after being fired. He carries a box of items which represent his legacy:

Xi Jinping, You’re Fired! by Badiucao for CDT:

辞职

The box holds steamed buns, a reference to Xi’s popular nickname, as well as an emperor’s cap, and a “little red book” of sayings of Mao Zedong.

The identities of the drafters of the open letters remain unknown. The first document was signed only by “loyal Communist Party members.” Its release has prompted an intensive police search for the authors, during which more than 20 people have been detained, including family members of journalists living overseas. The second letter was signed by “171 Communist Party members.” Public opposition to Xi’s policies has grown in recent months with a number of journalists, business people, scholars, and officials expressing dissenting views.
