Exports from China surge 42%

China’s surged 42.2 percent in January from a year earlier, the government said on Tuesday, helping to create a $6.5 billion surplus that highlights U.S. concerns about the Chinese currency’s value and may put pressure on Beijing to let the yuan rise.

Exports hit $50.8 billion in January, while imports were at $44.3 billion, up 24 percent, the Xinhua news agency said, citing customs figures.
