The Great Hall of the People will again leap into world attention upon the holding of the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing, scheduled on March 5 and 3 respectively. As a reflection of the whole-year policies, the two sessions have always been the most direct information source for the observation of Chinese social trends, HK-based Ta Kung Pao said.
There have always been governmental and non-governmental versions on the focuses of each year’s meetings. According to limited official release, governmental focuses can be summed up in the following five points: 1. To strength macro-control and ensure stable economic development; 2. To renew efforts to increase support for the “three rurals”,(Agriculture, rural economy and rural inhabitants) and to further increase farmers’ income; 3.To change growth pattern and balance regional development; 4.To deepen reforms of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) and guide non-public economy forward; 5. To promote the building of a harmonious society and ensure social stability.
