China’s parliament on Monday passed an anti-secession bill that mandates the use of military force against Taiwan, which Premier Wen Jiabao said was aimed at peace with the self-ruled island, not war.
The National People’s Congress wrapped up its annual session one day after electing Communist Party chief Hu Jintao as chairman of the state Central Military Commission, completing a handover of power from Jiang Zemin that began in 2002.
