Since March of last year, the Chinese Mainland, in response to the unstable situation in the Taiwan Strait following the re-election of Chen Shuibian, has made specific adjustments to its Taiwan policy. These vigorous adjustments, made under the premise that the Mainland would continue to advocate the policies of peaceful unification, “one country, two systems,” and Comrade Jiang Zemin’s “Eight Point Proposal,” have attracted a great deal of attention.
