Sarah Coleman: Foisting Freud on China

From SFGate.com:

It’s hard to imagine a culture clash more dramatic than the one in Dai Sijie‘s new novel. In “Mr. Muo’s Travelling Couch,” Freudian psychoanalysis crashes headlong into Chinese communism, and also bumps up against some slightly creepy “traditional” Chinese attitudes toward sex. The novel is a bawdy comic romp that at times gives way to some serious questions about love, sex and political repression.
