ELEANOR HALL: It’s now more than half a century since Chinese forces took control of the landlocked Buddhist community of Tibet, but next week is the 40th Anniversary of China’s founding of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, and the Communist Government is now preparing for a huge celebration to mark the event.
Tibetans and their supporters have long claimed that Chinese control has caused an erosion of the values and faith that set Tibet apart from the rest of the world, but as China Correspondent John Taylor reports, few locals were prepared to criticise Chinese rule publicly, when he visited Tibet as part of a Chinese Government-sanctioned trip.
