99% of Chinese firms not applied for patents – Beijing Time

Products “Made in China” have reached most markets worldwide. However, 99% of Chinese enterprises have neither applied for international, nor national patents, up to the present.

Statistics from the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPOC) show that by the end of 2005, merely 0.03% of Chinese enterprises have independent intellectual property core technologies, 99% have never applied for a patent and 60% have not their own trademarks. Many enterprises manufacture, but not create, goods and have intellectual property rather than knowledge. Some even depend on making counterfeits.[Full Text]
