Miner Commits Suicide – Radio Free Asia

An unemployed miner in China’s southern province of Guangdong blew himself up at local police station after pleading with officers to help him obtain unpaid wages, witnesses said.

Police have identified the miner as Liu Yingqiu, a native of central Hunan province, they told RFA’s Cantonese service.

He appears to have triggered an explosion around 3 p.m. July 13 at the busy Shaoguan police station, they said.

Liu had been working for an illegal mine earlier in the year in Wenguan city, also in Guangdong province, sources said. [Full Text]
