China police seize guns, explosives in crackdown – Reuters

Chinese police have seized thousands of guns and tonnes of illegal explosives two months after launching a national campaign to crackdown on illegal weapons, state media said on Tuesday.

In the southwestern province of Sichuan, 5,500 guns, including pistols, hunting rifles, and home-made and military weapons had been seized, Xinhua news agency said, citing the Ministry of Public Security.

More than 1,000 people were charged with illegal firearms crimes in nearly 250 cases in Sichuan and the two northeastern provinces of Jilin and Liaoning, it said. [Full Text]
