Police detain 10 in subway mishap – AP

From AP:

Police have detained 10 people in charge of building a new subway line for the 2008 Beijing Olympics after one of the project’s tunnels collapsed, trapping six workers, state media said Friday.

After more than two days of clearing debris, rescuers had yet to reach the workers who were trapped underground Wednesday morning while working on the No. 10 line, which runs through the main Olympics compound in northwestern Beijing.

No contact had been made with the workers, who were buried under rock and dirt. The official Xinhua News Agency quoted rescuers at the site as saying those trapped were unlikely to have survived. [Full Text]
