China To Send Bird Flu Virus Samples To WHO – Nidhi Sharma

In an attempt to help the World Health Organization (WHO) produce new vaccines for the deadly disease, China is reportedly working to send virus samples from recent human bird flu cases. Earlier this week, the agency had complained that it had not received any for over a year.

The WHO had earlier accused China with not cooperating and withholding the virus samples, which can slow efforts to track diseases and develop vaccines. WHO had requested the samples March 23, this year…

According to media reports, five new human cases have been reported in China since the country last sent samples to the WHO in April and May of 2006. [Full Text]
