KMT To Add “Taiwan” Into Party Charter – Radio Taiwan International

From Radio Taiwan International:

The main opposition party — the Kuomintang (KMT) — says it will revise its charter to embrace values that are more Taiwan-centered.

The KMT originated in China in 1912. The party ruled much of China until its retreat to Taiwan in 1949 after losing a civil war. The KMT’s full name is “Kuomintang of China.”

According to a local media report on Friday, the KMT has finalized a draft amendment to remove “unification with China” as the party’s ultimate goal. The amendment also states that the KMT will “stick to Taiwan-centered values.” This marks the first time that the word “Taiwan” has appeared in the party charter. [Full Text]
