Several China-based bloggers are reporting that Yahoo is not accessible in China. According to Greatfirewallofchina.org it is blocked, though Peking Duck reports it has come back in Beijing just now. The block on Flickr has apparently been stepped up as well, according to Sinosplice and Shanghaiist. Jottings From a Granite Studio quotes Thomas Jefferson (“An informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will”) to express his bewilderment and the anger of the foreign blogger community at the recent spate of blockages:
Blogspot is down. Blogsome is down. Type pad. Word press.
People are pissed.
Two things come to mind:
1) This is going to get worse before it gets better. The CCP has shown no particular evidence that such niceties as “access to information” and “a more open media for 2008” is going to have any effect on their haphazard and arbitrary blocking of internet sites here in the Olympic city.
