Slideshow: Chinese Pollution Discharge as Shown on Google Earth

Water pollution has long been China’s headache and an issue under the international spotlight. Although in recent years China has paid attention to this issue, industrial pollution is still widespread.

Below is a collection of images from Google Earth of pollution discharge from different cities (Not all the photos are from 2007, but the pollution situation did not change much), from bjdvd.bbs.net.

Excerpts from the comments via bjdvd.bbs.net:

“A ghastly sight…”

“The sea will turn black after a few years.”

“The relevant officials should be thrown into the polluted river.”

“What are our party representatives doing now?”

“My hometown is by the Bengbu city. When I was little, we could drink the water in Huaihe River. Little by little, the water became non-drinkable but we still could swim in it. Then we couldn’t swim in it but only walk by the river. Later on, we even could not take a walk by the river. Now and then, there was some ink-like sewage flowing down from the upper section of the river. What impressed me was almost all the fish floated up when the black sewage water came. There is no any species which could stand the polluted water….The only thing that the common people can do is to bear the pollution. Officials never pay attention to this. They only care whether they can be promoted.”

“We should let our party representatives drink a glass of his local polluted water.”

“Very scary…It seems our next generation will not know what the river and sea are…”

“Then how long it will take for our country to recover from water pollution?”

“No wonder someone says that Google Earth exposes national secrets! Google should be banned.”
