Mall Takes Bids On Mao’s Jet

From Financial Times:

Bids are being taken for the personal jet of Mao Zedong, the late Chinese leader, as its owner wants it removed from outside the shopping mall where it is on display, to make room for more car park spaces.

“The decision to sell it is just normal. Our company is developing and we really need the square where the plane is parked,” said Wang Zhilei, general manager of Ridong Group in Zhuhai, the Chinese city that abuts the gambling enclave of Macao.

The aircraft is wrapped in furniture advertising and now also carries a large red “For sale” poster, with Mr Wang’s mobile phone number for inquiries.

“We receive many calls every day. And we are in talks with some serious parties,” Mr Wang said.
