New Edition of China Encyclopedia Published

From Xinhua:

A new edition of the Encyclopedia of China, which has been compiled over 14 years, has been published by the Encyclopedia of China Publishing House this month.

The second edition draws on a corpus of 32 volumes, 60,000 items, 30,000 pictures and 1,000 maps, said the publishing house Wednesday.

The Encyclopedia of China was the first large-sized comprehensive encyclopedia in China. Its first edition was published in 1993.

The publishing house’s Editor-in-Chief Xu Weicheng said, with 60 million Chinese characters, the latest edition is much slimmer than the 130-million-character first edition.

The new edition rewrote a large number of items, updated or replaced some outdated ones, and integrated some overlapping ones.
